WordPress Photo Challenge – Half-Light

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is:

Half-Light: “Share a photo inspired by a poem, verse, song lyric or story.”

Wow, March has been a busy one…work, family events (birthdays, weddings), the weather has been all over the place! Unfortunately, what suffered was my blogging, and for that I apologize. I promise to be back as we roll into April with a little more sanity 🙂

For this week’s WPC, here I am again featuring one of Brandon’s (our youngest son) photographs taken this past Friday morning after a pretty amazing ice storm that hit South-Western Ontario (many areas were without power for quite a while due to the ice on the power lines). I think he’s starting to get the hang of the “composition” side of photography 🙂

This one immediately brought to mind a line of my favourite song so far this year – The Sound of Silence (the Disturbed cover).

But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

I know these aren’t raindrops, per se, in their current form, but the lighting on them makes the cold, harshness of winter “echo in the silence”…

WordPress Photo Challenge – Harmony

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is:

Harmony: “The combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce chords having a pleasing effect; the quality of forming a pleasing and consistent whole.”

So for this week’s WPC, I’m featuring a shot our son took – with his phone no less 🙂 It’s one of those experimental shots that you take and then the more you look at it, the more it impacts you…I love the way your eyes go down the piano keyboard, and the darkness of it…just something about it! Great shot, Brandon! I will be interested to see how this interest in photography grows 🙂

WordPress Photo Challenge – State of Mind

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is:

State of Mind: This week, let your inner world and the outside one converge in a photo.

ripplesI like this photo, taken in the spring of 2013, not so much for any technical qualities, but how the water ripples are calming. I was honestly just goofing around with some settings, and when I loaded them into LightRoom later, this one really jumped out at me, so I played with some cropping and a few other settings to end up with this fun little monochromatic thingamajig 🙂

I’m curious if anyone can guess what the actual picture is of…and as usual, click the image to see it full-sized.

WordPress Photo Challenge – Optimistic

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge theme is:

Optimistic: How do you fuel the fires of optimism?

This sunset, shot in the summer of 2013 while camping at The Pinery, to me, epitomizes the optimism of a summer vacation, away from the bustle of work…a time to recharge with family and friends nearby. We go here every summer and it has to be one of the most relaxing weeks of our year! This particular shot was taken our first evening there that summer and just got me so ready for the week to come!

WordPress Photo Challenge – Weight(less)

I was just introduced to a WordPress Photo Challenge by fellow blogger and photographer who runs PHOTOPHILE. I was very glad to see this – some of the daily ones are way too much, but weekly, I think I can handle!

This week’s theme is:

Weight(less): Show us the effects of gravity in your photo this week.

I think this little guy, who I shot w/ my Nikon D7000 in the summer of 2013 using my Sigma 100-500mm APO lens is a good view of gravity and weightlessness 🙂

I hope my Pingback works!
